Gran, 80, on the road for a Brit record
CYCLIST Mavis Paterson AN 80-year-old grandmother is set to become the oldest woman to cycle the full length of Britain.
Widow Mavis Paterson will ride her 960-mile route in memory of her three children, who died within four years of each other.
Mavis, who rode across Canada 10 years ago, is raising £20,000 for charity Macmillan after losing her mum and sister to cancer.
She said: “It will be nice to get the record, but I’m doing it because big challenges help me cope with the unimaginable grief of losing my children.”
Mavis, of Auchenmalg, Dumfries and Galloway, will leave Land’s End on May 24 and aims to reach John o’Groats on June 13.
Macmillan’s Derek Watson said: “Her determination is astounding.”
