The creators of new ITV drama Hatton Garden had technical help – from a family member of one of the jailed robbers.

Writer Jeff Pope says: “There is nothing in the script that has come out of thin air.

“The sources were the senior officer who led the investigation, Peter Spindler [right], books and the police transcripts.

“We also had a back door route into one family. That is how we knew about bins being left [outside a house with jewels in] and about a robber

having a diabetic episode.”
