ROBINSON RIOT
Protesters battle cops as far-right leader jailed BBC news camera crew targeted by yobs
FAR-right thugs threw bottles and missiles at police and attacked a BBC crew after their leader Tommy Robinson was jailed for nine months.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was sentenced yesterday for contempt of court after disrupting the trial of alleged paedophiles in 2018.
A social media account in Robinson’s name called the sentence an “absolute joke” and said it was time to protest.
His supporters let off smoke bombs as they clashed with police outside the Old Bailey before they moved on to Westminster and blocked the road outside the Houses of Parliament.
Chanting “we want Tommy out”, they marched to College Green, where they tore down and burned European flags.
A group of Robinson’s supporters rushed towards a BBC camera crew who were filming presenter Peter Saull live on the BBC One O’Clock News. Police moved in as a number of men shouted “shame on you” at the broadcasters and knocked over their lighting equipment.
Shortly after, the crowd began chanting “paedo protectors” at police, and “we want our country back” as they headed to the Attorney General’s office.
