ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL
Cert 12 ★★ Digital today, disc July 22
This comic-book dystopian sci-fi blockbuster grinds along under the weight of its many malfunctioning parts, despite being written and produced by the director of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, James Cameron. It’s directed with a sledgehammer sensibility by Robert “Desperado” Rodriguez, and feels bashed together at great expense. At least Rosa Salazar is engaging as cyborg warrior Alita, who tries to establish her identity while romancing a leather-clad ruffian and juggling an overstuffed and open-ended script.
