IT’S HEAVEN ..THEN HULL

- BY GARETH WALKER Rugby Lge Correspondent @garethwalker

JOSH GRIFFIN led a threequarter line full house as Hull displayed their maddening inconsistency within one game.

Griffin was among six different tryscorers in a first half that finished with the Black and Whites 34-0 ahead, with fellow centre Carlos Tuimavave and wingers Bureta Faraimo and Ratu Naulago also touching down.

But Lee Radford’s side then switched off to concede three tries to bottom club Broncos, who produced a spirited second-half display in an already lost cause for the second time in a week.

The win cements Hull’s place in the top three, and with a Challenge Cup semi-final with Warrington ahead, they are very much in the race for silverware.

But their Jekyll and Hyde persona continues as they mix dazzling brilliance with spells of indifference.

London look like a team ready for the break the cup will provide them with after a third straight defeat.

The game was effectively over as a contest after the opening quarter, with the home side 28-0 ahead.

The Broncos’ miserable first half started with a mix-up between Rhys Williams and Kieran Dixon that gifted Tuimavave the opening try.

It was then one-way traffic for 15 minutes as the home side ruthlessly put London to the sword.

Griffin set up Faraimo, Joe Westerman stepped over from close range and Jake Connor exchanged passes with Sika Manu to score.

Faraimo then returned the favour for Griffin to cross, and although the Broncos stemmed the tide briefly, Hull struck again before the break. Naulago intercepted Jay Pitts’ ambitious pass and raced 90 metres.

Danny Ward’s side had been 36-0 behind at half-time against Warrington five days earlier before holding their own in the second half.

And they again showed commendable spirit to win the second half. They started to restore lost pride when Williams knocked a Jordan Abdull kick-back for Matty Fleming to score.

Abdull stepped through a retreating defence and when Sadiq

Adebiyi forced his way over just after the hour London narrowed the gap to 16 points. Hull were sufficiently uneasy for Marc Sneyd to slot a drop goal before Adebiyi crashed over.
