Man given 10 yrs for raping and killing Brit teen in Goa
BEACH shack worker Samson D’Souza was sentenced to 10 years’ hard labour yesterday for raping and killing British teen Scarlett Keeling in Goa in 2008.
D’Souza, 36, was found guilty in Goa of culpable homicide earlier this week, but a second man, Placido Carvalho, 47, was cleared.
Scarlett’s mum Fiona MacKeown, 55, of Bideford, Devon, said: “I’m happy he’s been sentenced to GUILTY Samson D’Souza rigorous imprisonment.” Authorities treated 15-year-old Scarlett’s death as an accident but her mum pushed for a second postmortem, which uncovered 50 separate injuries. Prosecutors claimed she was drugged, sexually assaulted and left to die on Anjuna beach, but both men were cleared in 2016. D’Souza’s acquittal was overturned following an appeal by India’s Central Bureau of Investigation.
