Taylor-made cast of Cats

- BY POPPY DANBY

IT’S one of the world’s most successful musicals and the new film version of Cats is set to be an epic “tail” – if the cast is anything to go by.

The new trailer for the Christmas film release of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show features a litter of A-listers in their finest furs.

Singing superstars, Taylor Swift, 29, Jennifer Hudson, 37, and Jason Derulo, 29, embrace their inner kittens as Bombalurina, Grizabella and Rum Tum Tugger.

The purrfect cast also includes James Corden, 40, putting his Carpool Karaoke to good use in the role of Bustopher Jones.

Ray Winstone, 62, is Growltiger, Idris Elba, 46, is Macavity and Ian McKellen, 80, is Gus the Theatre Cat.

Judi Dench, 84, plays Old Deuteronomy, nearly 40 years after she had to pull out of the 1981 premiere with an Achilles injury.

She said: “We spent a very very long time preparing how to be a cat.”

Providing the pirouetting on paws is Royal Ballet principal Frankie Hayward.

The set is three to four times larger than normal human scale to give the sense of a cat’s perspective.

Realistic fur was added digitally in post-production.

The film, directed by Tom Hooper, uses motion capture technology to make them look as feline as possible.
