MPs: We must protect troops from repeated witch-hunts
MPs today call for an end to “vexatious” and repeated probes into alleged historical offences by British troops.

CALLS Johnny Mercer against prosecution for alleged offences more than 10 years ago. The legislation – subject to public consultation – will say prosecutions are not in the public interest unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as compelling new evidence. It was meant to be released with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. But Alex Winter, of Hake’s Auctions, said: “The toy was pulled after being deemed a possible safety hazard, making the figure extremely rare. Possibly 100 made it out the factory and only a handful have come to the market. They were meant to all be destroyed, but some employees took them home.”
