JAMES MILNER says he has been left in the dark over a new contract at Liverpool.

The 33-year-old midfielder (above) has less than a year left on his Anfield deal but has heard no suggestion of an extension.

He said: “We spoke to the club a year ago and asked if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time. We haven’t heard anything since.

“All I can do is concentrate on my football and do what I can.”

Milner, who has been at Liverpool since 2015, is showing no signs of slowing down despite his age. He returned to pre-season training in top condition and beat his teammates in early fitness tests. He also played a vital role in helping the Reds win their sixth Champions League crown.

“Everyone pipes on about my age but only three things matter: availability, fitness and performance level. Hopefully I am delivering all three,” he said.

Milner reckons the Champions League Liverpool won in June, beating Tottenham in the final, was just the start.

“I have won a big trophy for the club and I’m sure it will be the first of many,” he said. ANTHONY KNOCKAERT has targeted promotion after joining Fulham on a season-long loan deal from Brighton.

The winger, 27, has scored five goals in 63 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls, but has dropped down to the Championship.

And his move is likely to become permanent next summer as Brighton confirmed an undisclosed fee had also been agreed with the Cottagers.

“It’s amazing to be here,” said Knockaert. “I feel really welcome already. It’s great to get this done and for me to be a Fulham player.

“I can’t wait to help Fulham achieve its goal – getting back to the Premier League where the club belongs.”
