LEE HAS TO MAKE A BIG CADDIE CALL

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

LEE WESTWOOD will return to the Masters next year after his top-four finish at the Open – and now must decide who will be his caddie at Augusta.

The Ryder Cup veteran recorded his 19th top-10 Major finish, with his girlfriend Helen Storey on his bag (above), because son Sam was playing a tournament.

And the 46-year-old, who did not qualify for the first Major of the year this April, said: “It will be brilliant to go back there – and the caddie problem is a good one to have!

“Augusta is a very special place and I played great there in the past, I had a chance to win it.

“I don’t strictly think Augusta is bomber’s paradise, although I think it helps. If you’ve played it a lot, and you play it well, there’s a lot of repeat winners.

“I feel like I can get it around there. I’ve had a couple of close calls, second a couple of times, and third a couple of times.”

Westwood finished with a two-over 73 in the brutal afternoon conditions and needed world No.1 Brooks Koepka to bogey 17 to allow him to finish tied fourth.

The winner of the Nedbank Golf Challenge last year will also get another chance to be the oldest-ever winner of the Open next year.

“I’m still working hard on everything and I don’t feel like my game is dropping off,” he added. “I feel like I’m still capable of winning tournaments.

“There’s no time like the moment, if I keep myself fit. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and to see what next year has in store.”

Westwood’s playing partner Danny Willett, who shot a 65 on Saturday, also carded a 73 yesterday to finish tied sixth – his best Major result since winning the 2016 Masters.

Last year’s runner-up Justin Rose (inset) shanked a shot on the ninth on his way to a 79.
