PAYING TRIBUTE Camilla, Charles, King Goodwill and Queen Pumi pose with military BUDGET chain Travelodge is backing Britain’s seaside resorts with plans to open a wave of new hotels.

The firm has earmarked 26 coastal locations for the rollout, including Lerwick on the Shetland Islands, Pwllheli in North Wales and areas of Cornwall, Jersey and Guernsey.

It comes as a poll by Travelodge found that 69% of Brits said they planned to take their annual holiday in the UK this summer. Over 50% said they were opting for a staycation due to Brexit uncertainties and because they wanted to support British tourism.

The Mirror is doing its bit through our Give Kids A Seaside Smile summer appeal. Readers have already donated thousands of pounds to help children who would never normally get the chance to enjoy a coastal break.

Travelodge opened its first seaside hotel in Brighton in 1999, and its 36th, in Rhyl in North Wales, this year. The firm’s UK development director, Tony O’Brien, said: “We are seeing the rebirth of seaside resorts and towns.

“We are becoming a strong staycation nation. To support this growing trend, we are looking to enter new markets and extend our network.

“There are significant regeneration and modernisation projects taking place in seaside towns and cities, and we have identified 26 coastal areas that could benefit from a Travelodge hotel,” he added. zAberystwyth zBognor Regis zBournemouth zBude zCanterbury/Whitstable zDeal/Sandwich zEastbourne zFalmouth zFolkestone zGuernsey zHove zJersey zLerwick zLooe/Fowey zLowestoft zNewquay zOban zPenarth zPenzance zPwllheli zShoreham-by-Sea zSt Ives zTenby zTruro zWestonsuper-Mare zWeymouth
