A dump in the road...

A PATH popular with dog walkers and cyclists has been blocked by a truckload of festering rubbish which is 12ft high and 50ft long.

The heap, which includes electrical cables, circuit boards and children’s toys, appeared overnight.

A container labelled “highly flammable” was also in the litter, which appears to have been compacted.

Residents have slammed the flytippers as “selfish” and “disgusting”.

Shortly before the rubbish was discovered, a truck was captured on CCTV footage being driven towards the path at around midnight and leaving an hour later.

A resident, who does not want to be named, said: “I have walked down here every day for years and I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s disgusting.

“To dump rubbish on a pathway that’s used by the public is awful. Us who live here have to walk past it and smell it CCTV of truck near the path every day. People have to be careful their dogs don’t go anywhere near it because who knows what’s in there?

“You can tell it’s been dumped by a professional waste disposal outfit. This isn’t just a few blokes in their cars, it’s a lorry full of rubbish.”

The waste was dumped in Stockport, Greater Manchester, near an entrance to the Fallowfield Loop, a path for horse riders, pedestrians and cyclists.

People have had to try to navigate their way around the pile of rubbish by going on the overgrown verges.

Councillor Sheila Bailey called the fly-tipping “horrible” and “a serious criminal offence”. She added the council has gathered evidence and will work with the Environment Agency in its investigation aimed at bringing the culprits to justice. Fly-tippers can face jail or a fine of up to £50,000.
