Trip sent me to the funny farm

-

I’ve just spent 10 days in a 29ft motorhome, driving my little girl and the dog 1,000 miles round England taking in Sherwood Forest, Whitby, Hadrian’s Wall, the Lake District and the Dales. It was planned so that every day there’d be a different walk for him, and different story for her.

We did Robin Hood, Dracula, the Romans and Peter Rabbit.

I needn’t have bothered.

Her favourite bit was a visit (for my sake) to Haworth Parsonage where the Bronte sisters wrote their novels, and a walk on the moors they once trudged over.

Both of them were happiest when they were with me, walking in the rain, and chattering about nothing much. And that’s when I was happiest too. But I could have done that at home, for free, without having to listen to Old MacDonald Had A Farm on a loop for two hours a day.
