Single minded

A leaked NHS document says single women should be denied IVF treatment because lone mums “place a greater burden on society”.

It states only those “living in a stable relationship” should get help to conceive, because “single mothers are generally poorer... likely to have greater support needs... [and] unable to bring out the best outcomes for the child”.

Leaving aside the fact that the only truly permanent relationship is one in which two people are chained together, single parents do the work of two for half the price.

This particular lone parent does her job, pays her mortgage, raises her child, and is doing OK at all three. Just like every mum widowed by war, or dad left holding the baby.

The reason single mums historically had problems is due to state disdain, which rendered them poorer, less employable, and socially unacceptable. Scrap such obscene attitudes and all parents will be better off.
