DEBUT STRIKE IS GIMI FOR AL

- JOY

A DEBUT GOAL for Spanish striker Alvaro Giminez sealed a deserved victory for Birmingham City after they dominated Barnsley.

It had taken until the 69th minute for Lukas Jutkiewicz to break down the Tykes’ stubborn resistance with a well finished close range header.

In a cagey opening half it was Birmingham who looked most dangerous with Fran Villalba combining with Wes Harding down the right to cause Barnsley some early problems.

Villalba was involved every time Birmingham went forward. The former Spanish youth international was on hand to pick up Jutkiewicz’s lay-off and send in a fierce strike that had Samuel Radlinger at full stretch.

After the break Jutkiewicz struck with a thumping header into the top corner from Harding’s cross to give Blues a much deserved lead.

And Giminez doubled the advantage shortly afterwards as he raced on to Steve Seddon’s inch perfect pass to coolly lob the onrushing Radlinger.
