KLOPP: I MAY RETIRE IN 2022

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

JURGEN KLOPP has hinted again he may walk away from football when his Liverpool contract expires in 2022.

The Reds boss was in Germany earlier this week to receive a coachof-the-year award.

Klopp was in a lighthearted mood as he suggested he does not know what he will do in three years’ time.

But, taken with his comments from a year ago, when he suggested he could leave the game far earlier than most coaches, it suggests the prospect has crossed his mind. In accepting the award, he was asked what is next in his career after lifting the Champions League and he replied: “I hope to continue like this, but in two, three years I don’t know what may happen. Maybe I’ll retire!”

He added: “It doesn’t mean it will happen, but if that were the case, you wouldn’t be surprised.”

Klopp – whose side, including Trent AlexanderArnold and Alex OxladeChamberlain (above) were yesterday training to play Arsenal on Saturday – revealed he was offered Philippe Coutinho on loan.

But he said: “As weird as it sounds, we could not afford it.”
