A DAD was stabbed to death with a screwdriver after showing good manners to a teenage thug.

Solicitor Peter Duncan, 52, was killed with a single blow to the heart when he stopped to let the 17-year-old through the doors of a busy shopping mall.

The lad, who admits murder, for some reason took exception to Mr Duncan lifting his arm to allow him to pass, and began a struggle in front of shoppers.

A court heard the devoted dad of two was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” at the Eldon Square centre, Newcastle upon Tyne, on August 14.

The victim was heading from his city centre office to get on a bus home.

The youth fled but was arrested shortly afterwards. He was captured on CCTV discarding the murder weapon.

The killer, who cannot be named, had JAILED Sadam Essakhil 31 previous convictions including for threatening his own mother with a knife.

He was on bail for affray in which the victim was allegedly warned he would have his Achilles slashed with a knife.

The teen faces life in jail after also admitting having an offensive weapon – the screwdriver – and stealing a packet of screwdrivers at Poundland.

He had been involved in a row with another teen over buying cigarettes.

Kevin Wardlaw, prosecuting, told a previous hearing: “CCTV shows him clearly agitated before the offence. The Crown say the deceased was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“The defendant took hold of deceased and a struggle ensued.

“The deceased walked away a short distance before the effects of the injury took hold, and he collapsed to the floor.”

At Leeds crown court yesterday, the A CONVICTED murderer who stabbed a man to death as a schoolboy has fronted a police video from behind bars urging children not to carry knives.

Sadam Essakhil was 15 years old when he murdered Lukasz Furmanek, 24, in a street attack in Handsworth, Birmingham, in May 2015. He was jailed the for life, to serve a minimum of 19 years, for the “chilling and senseless” attack.

But Essakhil has spoken from his cell in a bid to warn young people.

The ground-breaking video, released by West Midlands Police, will be shown in schools in a bid to combat knife crime.

In the footage, Essakhil, 20, says: “The reason I carried a knife was for my own protection. I sincerely regret what I did and always think about the victim and his family as they’ll never see him again.”

West Midlands Police said they did not take the decision to use a murderer for their anti-knife campaign lightly and believe it is a first for a UK force.

Det Chief Insp Jim Munro said: “Sadam’s message is powerful.” VICTIM Lukasz
