TOMMY: BIG BRO TYSON INSPIRES ME

- LOVED UP BY CHRIS McKENNA

TOMMY FURY spent last week in Las Vegas, looking at his brother’s name up in lights and dreaming one day it would be him.

Sin City is where boxing superstars perform and Tyson Fury’s face was projected all over the jumbo screens that line the famous Strip to advertise his clash with Otto Wallin.

The younger Fury may be a star here in the UK, thanks to his stint on Love Island this summer, but as he wandered around Vegas with partner Molly-Mae Hague from the ITV show, they were both unknowns.

Much like how Tommy feels in boxing, despite his new-found celeb status in the reality TV world.

“Tyson (below) is the best heavyweight in the world, the best fighting man there is,” said Fury, 20.

“That’s some feat. But what have I ever done? It’s overnight fame – you’re known everywhere in the space of two months.

“You go in, after two months you come out, and it’s like you’re the new member of the Beatles.

“But you’re only the eighth Beatle for a couple of months, until the next season starts. So the main thing, after coming out of Love Island, is to do things to keep yourself relevant.

“In my case, that means going back to boxing because it’s something I love and something I’ve got a passion for.”

Fury’s opening two bouts in the pro game were still met with little fanfare, despite his family name, before he was asked to go on Love Island. Now his profile has skyrocketed. “It can’t work against me because now I could sell out the arenas by myself,” he said. “But I can’t let it go to my head and, in training camp, I can’t start thinking, ‘I don’t have to train hard because I can sell it out already’.

“I’ve got to train, just like I always have.”

Light-heavyweight Fury won’t be rushed in his boxing career either – his father, John, simply won’t allow it.

He added: “My dad will never let me have a fight I’m not ready for, and that’s why I’m confident in the team around me, because the fights I’m having will be at the right time.”
