Same-sex dance a Strictly winner

-

■ Strictly Come Dancing is a family show that all ages can watch and enjoy. The fact that it has now shown two professional male dancers performing together might open up some debate, but well done to the producers who have had the courage to show that men are able to dance together.

Johannes Radebe and his on-stage partner, Graziano di Prima, performed perfectly well together to the brilliant Emeli Sande hit, Shine.

The boys were superb. Maybe the next series will feature two females dancing together. It is the style, class and professionalism of the dancers that counts – not gender.

Tom Baxter, Stirlingshire

■ Some people are just so judgemental. Dancing is dancing whoever is doing it. We live in a more modern world now – not the 1800s. So long as people are happy leave them be and mind your own business. You have a choice as to whether you watch it or not.

■ Hopefully next year we can see same-sex dances on the show with celebrities and their partners. The world is changing and everyone is equal. Let’s move with the times. Mark Edwards, Cwmavon South Wales

■ This was great to see and about time! But Strictly had to get this in before Dancing On Ice starts – especially as they have already announced that they will be having same sex celebrity and professional couples. It doesn’t seem like

Strictly did this for the right reasons – it was more for ratings.

Lynda Rutherford, Newcastle upon Tyne

■ I couldn’t disagree more with Strictly’s same-sex dance. I’m not against same sex couples at all, but for me half of the magic of the show is about the glamorous dresses. What happens when it’s two men? Pat Walsh, Sheffield

■ It was absolutely beautiful. Johannes is an amazing dancer and ambassador for LGBTQ+ everywhere. He grew up in South Africa and hasn’t had it easy. The joy of seeing him truly express himself caused my daughter and me to rewind and re-watch three times. Kylie Cederblad, Ramsgate

■ Even if nobody likes it, they will always be remembered as the first same sex couple to dance on Strictly. Good on you boys, show them how it’s done!

Joanne Lawton, Sheffield

■ As I commented to my daughter at the time, the whole routine was very reminiscent of the beach dance in the old film, Carousel. People are people, no matter what their gender and dancing is dancing. There is same sex dancing in every culture from Native North American, through to African, European, Asian and Antipodean. I have no problem with that.

Sue Andrew, Northumberland

■ It was a beautiful, masculine performance. No sexual rubbish, just sheer delight.

Ben Clements, London
