HOW WE CAN HELP

Bryan needed a bit of extra money during his semiretirement as he wanted to update his car and take a trip to see his family in New Zealand. Bryan, a part-time delivery driver, decided to release some of the cash tied up in his home, with an equity release plan.

“My family have all got their own homes so don’t really need anything from me, but there will still be a bit left in my estate to pass on to them,” says Bryan, 79, from Blackpool.

“It seemed silly having so much money tied up in property.”

Bryan released £20,000 via a lifetime mortgage – a type of loan secured against his home. He doesn’t have to pay anything back until his home is sold, either on his death, or if he moves into permanent long-term care.

Bryan explains: “I wasn’t struggling with everyday bills,

I have my pension and earn a bit of cash from my part time work. But, I needed to get the cash together to replace my car and couldn’t see any other way of getting hold of a lump sum.”

“I couldn’t believe how easy it was to sort this out. I had everything explained to me in simple terms, spelling out all the pros and cons – so I knew exactly where I stood and the effect it would have on my estate. It was the best move for me.”

JAMES MADDISON is hoping his casino own goal will not be held against him when Gareth Southgate names his England squad.

Leicester midfielder Maddison was sent home ill from England’s camp last month but was pictured in a casino while Southgate’s men played in the Czech Republic.

Southgate warned he would have to watch how he behaves in future but has yet to speak to him personally.

But the England boss is certain to address the issue with Maddison if he includes him today for the qualifiers with Montenegro and Kosovo.

Southgate has been watching Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in recent weeks and is ready to give him his first call up if the midfielder is fit, having missed his club’s last game against Liverpool.

He has been impressed with Grealish

(right) in recent weeks and wants to include him.

It would be hard to see both Grealish and Maddison in the squad together but with injuries they could both get in.

Midfield is the big area of concern for Southgate, with Ross Barkley – the two-goal hero in Bulgaria – in danger of losing out having missed recent Chelsea games through injury.

Barkley is now fit but Jordan Henderson is suspended for England’s first game with Montenegro a week today, so Southgate could name an enlarged squad, with potential recalls for Dele Alli and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 26, is in great form with four goals in his last three starts, and Alli is also playing again for Spurs after missing out last month. Harry Winks was left out of Tottenham’s’ squad for Belgrade in the Champions League, which is a worry given his recent impressive form. Chelsea’s Mason Mount also limped off against Ajax on Tuesday night and England will make fitness checks on both players. Manchester City’s John Stones could return though, with Everton’s Michael Keane at risk having been dropped in Bulgaria and also axed at Goodison Park on Sunday. Stones is having a turbulent season with injury and form, b u t Southgate remains an admirer and having right-footed centre-halves remains an issue. Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori and Tyrone Mings should keep their places, while Danny Rose’s dip in form is a concern. But he is likely to keep his place with Luke Shaw just returning to training.
