A FAMILY is living with an 18ft beast, after a baby snake grew into one of the world’s biggest pythons.

Marcus Hobbs, his partner and their two sons share their three-bed semi with the 17st reptile.

The female Burmese python, called Hexxie, is fed rabbits, calves, goats, deer and pigs, supplied by local farmers.

Such reptiles can squeeze a human to death in minutes and swallow them whole.

Marcus and partner Amy Leach, 31, also have a smaller snake, Monty, and a husky, Shiloh, in Tewkesbury, Glos. IT worker Marcus, 31, who got Hexxie eight years ago when she was 8ins long, said: “She doesn’t want for much. They don’t need excitement, they don’t suffer from boredom. That’s why they make such good pets. “I think people are so scared because they think [snakes] are going to kill them. I try to help people understand them.” Experts say the largest ever Burmese python was 18ft 8ins, but Marcus says Hexxie was over 18ft when he last measured her and she has since grown. He added: “I knew she would be big but she has shocked everybody by how much she has grown.” Marcus is sure Hexxie will not hurt him, but does not take her out of her tank if his sons, Benjamin, four, and Joseph, one, are around.
