A FITNESS fanatic has been left paralysed by a stroke after sumo wrestling at a family wedding.
Carol Dickson-Fisher, 52, was rushed to hospital a day after play fighting in a padded suit.
The exertion is thought to have caused a neck strain which then led to a bleed on the brain.
Her wife Nancy, 56, said: “A consultant said the sumo wrestling was the most likely cause.”
Triathlete Carol has not walked since the incident at the reception in August.
She is recovering at a rehabilitation centre near the couple’s home in Redruth, Cornwall.
The Stroke Association’s Dominic Brand said: “We know trauma can cause this but there isn’t enough research to tell us why.”

A promo video of the 34-year-old singer on social media has gone viral as it shows her insisting: “The worst thing that can happen in the jungle... is death.” ITV has medics on standby for every eventuality including snake bites. Asked about her comment as she landed in Brisbane, she said: “That is absolutely the truth, it happens all the time, not in jungles, but it is dangerous in there.” Nadine also says her daughter Anaiya was an inspiration for taking part.
She said: “My daughter is five and I think she will go, ‘She’s so brave’. Since I became a parent I’m much more afraid.”
