BEAT GOES ON Liz Smith

BRITAIN’S oldest PCSO has vowed to pound the beat for at least another decade after reaching 71.

Gran-of-three Liz Smith still works up to 56 hours a week tackling antisocial behaviour, searching for missing persons and guarding crime scenes.

There is currently no upper age limit for the role.

Liz said: “People ask me when I’m going to retire but the thought terrifies me. I love working and I love my job. Every day is different and I’m always facing new challenges.

“I might look old but I feel young. If they let me, I’ll carry on for another 10, 15 or even 20 years.”

Liz has patrolled the streets of Bridlington, East Yorks, for the past 13 years and received an MBE for community work in 2010.

A MUM lost more than half her body weight after her daughter feared that she was eating herself to death.

Wendy Deacon, 49, from Dublin, has been named Slimming World’s Woman of the Year after shedding an incredible 12st 4.5lbs.

She said: “I came across as jolly and smiley but inside I felt anything but.

“I felt uneasy whenever I left the house. I remember once a small boy pointed at me and said ‘look at that fat lady’ to his mother. “I wanted the ground to swallow me up.” Wendy – who was 22st 4lbs at her heaviest – said the turning point came when daughter, Amy told her grandmother she was worried that her mum might “eat herself to death”.

“Hearing that broke my heart and I knew I needed to change,” Wendy said. “The thought of my daughter being so worried about my health spurred me into action.”

She said the weight loss has given her the confidence to plan her wedding to fiance David Rigney, 54, and she is now looking forward to her 50th birthday in January.

Wendy added: “By far the best thing is seeing the pride in my family’s faces, especially Amy’s. I’ve finally started to feel proud of myself, too. I’ve got my whole life back.”

Wendy is now planning her wedding to fiance David
