DUCHESS ENJOYS RIGHT ROYAL RUN

- BY CHRIS GOULDING

CAMILLA, Duchess of Cornwall will be hoping her current run of racing success continues when Pacify carries her silks at Cheltenham on Sunday.

Pacify, bred by Prince Charles and the Duchess Of Cornwall, has been the impressive winner of all his five starts over the hurdles this season.

Trained at Lambourn by Jamie Snowden, the gelding, who runs under the ownership of the Duchess Of Cornwall (above) and Arsenal chairman Chips Keswick, has done nothing but improve with every racecourse appearance.

“He was a very good Flat horse,” said Snowden. “The plan was to try and find a couple of slightly weaker novice hurdles to get his confidence up and hopefully string along a sequence, which he has done very nicely. His latest race at Kempton was a nice stepping-stone for Cheltenham. He’s hardly come off the bridle and there is evidence that suggests we can dream that he can be even better.”

The seven-year-old runs in the Skybet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Trial and will be partnered by Gavin Sheehan, who has been in the saddle for all of the gelding’s victories.

Snowden had also enjoyed success for the royal family during his time as an amateur jockey.

“It’s a great privilege to be training for the royal family,” he said. “I was lucky enough to ride for the Queen and to train for the Duchess of Cornwall is a huge honour.

“The whole team are really enjoying it, and long may the luck continue.

“She bred the horse, which is a huge part. When you can own and bred a horse it can take you to some dizzy heights – she is certainly loving it.”
