Poorest die soonest in unequal Britain, study finds

-

WOMEN in England’s most deprived areas die 7.5 years sooner than those in the richest – while the gulf between rich and poor men is 9.3 years.

There has been increasing inequality between the rich and poor since 2011, a Health Foundation report said.

People in wealthier areas of the UK continue to live longer but for those living in the most deprived areas, life expectancy is stalling or even reversing, the report added.

The Health foundation’s Jo Bibby said: “We need a view not only on how long people live but also why they die.”
