Smog link to brain cancer
AIR pollution has been linked to brain cancer for the first time.
A one-year increase in exposure of 10,000 nanoparticles per cubic centimetre – the difference between quiet and busy streets – raised risk 10%.
Scott Weichenthal, from McGill University, Canada, said: “When you multiply these small risks by lots of people, all of a sudden there can be lots of cases.”
A 2016 study found that nanoparticles can enter the brain, carrying carcinogenic chemicals.
