Woman ‘slain for benefits’

A COUPLE murdered a homeless woman and put her body in a bin to get her benefits, a court was told.

Kathleen Salmond, 40, and Kevin Flanagan, 39, drowned Lisa Bennett, 39, in the bath in their flat, the jury heard.

Salmond then got Miss Bennett’s benefits paid to her own account.

She disappeared in Birmingham in 2013 and it is thought her body was destroyed at a waste depot.

The trial at Birmingham crown court continues.
