Jail for ‘lowest of low’ muggers

-

TWO men who mugged an 82-year-old woman were branded “lower than cowards” as they were jailed.

Robert Duke, 26, and Kyle Haggerty, 35, followed the pensioner from a Post Office on June 27 after she took out £200.

They shoved her to the ground and snatched her handbag before fleeing.

Ipswich crown court heard the woman is now too scared to leave her home after the mugging in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Haggerty, of no fixed address, blamed the attack on Duke, of Bacton, Suffolk. But both were found guilty by a jury on Tuesday.

Jailing Haggerty for eight years and Duke for seven years and 10 months, Judge Emma Peters called the attack “wicked, cruel, callous, greedy and nasty”.

She branded the pair the “lowest of the low – lower than cowards”.
