Drinkers are scanned for knives in pub

A PUB has installed metal detectors after a spate of knife crimes nearby – including a teen murder.
Punters wanting a drink at The Three Lions will have to be scanned using handheld devices before they can enter.
Landlord Sean Donnelly said he had become worried about the number of stabbings in the area.
A 14-year-old boy was this week charged with killing a fellow teenager during a row which took place just a few hundred yards from the pub in the Bedminster area of Bristol.
Mr Donnelly told his customers: “In light of recent incidents locally, our door supervisors will be using metal detectors.
“So please have patience and don’t complain if checked or searched.”
LAURA Whitmore says she has been speaking regularly with Caroline Flack, who “strongly pushed her” for the Love Island presenter’s role.
Laura, 34, was confirmed yesterday as the host alongside boyfriend Iain Stirling, who narrates the show.
She said: “I wish it was in better circumstances – Caroline is a brilliant host and also a friend.
“We’ve spoken a lot in the last few days since she stepped down. She has been very kind to me and strongly pushed me for this role. I’ve watched her host every series and know I have big boots to fill. I will try and do it justice.”
Flack, 40, was charged last week “following a private domestic incident”, reportedly involving boyfriend Lewis Burton, 27.
She said on Instagram that “in order to not detract attention from the upcoming series, I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down”. Laura described herself as a massive fan of the show and added: “To say I’m excited to be heading to Cape Town to host the biggest show on TV is an understatement. I’ve never been to a Love Island villa and I can’t wait to meet all the new islanders. Iain thought he was getting a holiday from me, not a chance.”
Flack said of her replacement: “I’m glad it’s Laura...” ■ Winter Love Island starts on January 12 on ITV2.
