A FORMER beauty pageant contestant and one-time football WAG has been jailed for 18 months for funding terrorism.
Amaani Noor, 21, who used to date 22-year-old Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, had planned to join her jihadi husband in Syria.
Noor is said to have become increasingly religious after the end of her relationship with Ojo, who is currently on loan at Rangers.
She claimed she thought a sum of around £35 donated to The Merciful Hands organisation would buy food for women and children in the war-torn country.
But she was found guilty last month of fundraising contrary to the Terrorism Act.
Also jailed yesterday was Victoria Webster, 28, of Nelson, Lancs, who got 17 months after admitting providing money for terrorism. She gave about £45 in a series of small amounts, prosecutor Serena Gates said. During the trial, the jury heard former Miss Teen GB semifinalist Noor exchanged messages with Webster using the Telegram app, and spoke about extremist groups including Islamic State.
They had access to videos showing torture, beheadings and people being set on fire which the judge described as “truly shocking”.
Noor also used the app to message a man named Hakim
EMAIL BELIEVED TO BE FROM NOOR TO HUSBAND
My Love who, she told the court, she had married via videolink and who described himself as an independent fighter in Syria.
When police searched her house last year she had a ticket to travel to Turkey. Emails found on a phone seized by police, believed to have been written by Noor to Hakim, were read to the court.
One said: “It’s been my dream to marry a fighter for a long time and my dream to be a fighter myself even longer lol.”
Noor from Wavertree, Liverpool, set up a PayPal account in a fake name due to “considerations of modesty”, she claimed.
But judge Andrew Meray QC said as he sentenced her at the Liverpool crown court: “I don’t accept that you are that modest or naive in the way you would like people to believe.”
