Breaking point for tired Reds

- BY JOHN CROSS

JURGEN KLOPP has launched a fresh attack over fixture chaos after the FA’s “incredible” decision to schedule FA Cup fourth round replays during the winter break.

The Premier League have scheduled their first ever mid-season rest in February, but there is potential for Liverpool having theirs interrupted by FA Cup fixtures.

Klopp is already annoyed after the pile-up which saw the club’s Under-23s having to play an EFL Cup quarterfinal with Aston Villa while the first team was at the Club World Cup.

The unhappy Reds boss told ESPN: “The problem is the Premier League have decided we have a winter break and the FA decided that if you draw in the fourth round, you must play the replay that week.

“It’s incredible. It’s just in the winter break. Right? That’s when they set the game.

“How is that possible? Nobody speaks about these things. I really don’t understand that. Look at that. We can’t do more games.

“The problem we have now is nobody speaks. We don’t speak enough to each other, so the Premier League, Football League, FA, UEFA, FIFA... everyone is planning their own things, and nobody follows that. So there is no common schedule for everybody.”

But the FA said: “The FA has worked hard to ensure the introduction of a winter break for Premier League clubs this season.

“Clubs will either be given a free weekend on February 8th and 9th or 15th and 16th. We will work with the Premier League and the clubs to ensure every team gets a winter break.”
