HE’S A MAN MOUNIE
Giant striker Steve has been transformed and Town are finally feeling the benefit
AT 6ft 3in and with an £11.5million price tag, Steve Mounie is a goalscoring phenomenon waiting to happen.
Huddersfield captain Christopher Schindler says the signs have been there on the training ground and now his team-mate is turning threat into delivery.
Mounie scored his first of the season to cement victory after defender Schindler gave the Yorkshiremen the lead in a match which proved beyond doubt that Huddersfield’s soft underbelly of last year has been consigned to history.
Take Mounie, the Benin forward with all the physical attributes to cause mayhem, especially from set-pieces.
His goals have been collector’s items but manager Danny Cowley has spotted something and he is not the only one.
Schindler said: “I can only speak positive about Steve. He had a difficult situation here and the beginning of the season was really tough for him but you could see in training how hard he works.” So what’s behind the transformation of both team and Mounie? Schindler said: “The main difference is that we are playing more together as a team.
“It’s very easy to say that but even in a one-against-one situation we help each other out.
“We have so many problems as well, like key players out, and we still manage to stay in games and keep games tight.
“Even when we are not at our best we can still get results. After a tough 18 months, I’m glad that we can win tight games” Schindler revealed he had no idea how to celebrate his goal and made the error of heading for the Forest fans.
The visitors, fresh from a 4-0 pummelling by Sheffield Wednesday, produced a muchimproved performance and Joe Worrall’s late header sparked a furious finale. Winger Joe Lolley, once of Huddersfield, said: “We will get through this bad patch.
“The first goal hits Ben Watson in the chest and lands directly on his (Schindler’s) foot and that’s typical of our luck at the moment.”
