PM: Football must do more about racism
TARGET Rudiger at Spurs
DOWNING Street has said football authorities must do more to tackle racism.
Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger reported being targeted with monkey chants by Tottenham Hotspur fans at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The Prime Minister’s spokesman welcomed an investigation by Spurs.
But they resisted Professional Footballers’ Association demands for an inquiry into the rise in hate crime within football.
The spokesman said: “Clearly there remains more work to be done by the football authorities in tackling this issue.
“We’ll continue working with the authorities on this and don’t rule out taking further steps if required.”
ELLIE GOULDING STAR HELPS AT CRISIS SHELTER
PRECIOUS TIME
ELLIE Goulding hands a man a warming cuppa as she volunteers at a homeless shelter.
The kind singer, 32, gave up her time to help at a temporary facility set up by charity Crisis, which she began working with six years ago.
She said at the London centre things had got “unfortunately worse” since then. “Not much has got better,” she said. “There hasn’t really been an improvement. As a whole, we haven’t seen a big enough difference.”
More than 4,500 people are expected to use the charity’s shelters over the festive period. Visitors get three hot meals a day, healthcare and advice on housing and finance.
Ellie added: “It is great people can come in and have a nice Christmas dinner and chat.”
As a whole we haven’t seen a big difference in six years
