JOSE THE JEALOUS ONE Mourinho envious of Klopp’s squad: He can do what he wants and that makes his team unpredictable

- BY PAUL BROWN

JOSE MOURINHO says Jurgen Klopp’s champions elect have an embarrassment of riches he can only dream of.

Klopp promised to name an “unpredictable” Liverpool line-up against undermanned Tottenham, who lost Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko to long-term injuries this week.

And envious Mourinho insists he’s not surprised, such is the talent his opposite number has at his disposal at Anfield.

The Spurs boss predicted three months ago when he was still a pundit on Sky TV that Liverpool would win the league this season.

And with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi to call on up front, he is under no illusions about the size of the task facing Spurs this evening.

Mourinho said: “I think he has so much in his hands that he can be what he wants. He can be unpredictable.

“He can play with Firmino as a nine, with Firmino as a No.10. He can play with Salah and Mane wide. He can play with Salah and Mane as strikers. He can play with Shaqiri. He can play Origi.

“He can do so many things. It’s difficult for somebody who plays against them.

“But I told you three months ago Liverpool were going to be champions.

“This situation is not a surprise for me. They are the best team in our Premier League. It’s a challenge.”

Contrast that to what Mourinho said about Spurs, who he insists no longer have a single recognised striker without Kane.

Asked why Heung-Min Son couldn’t deputise, as he has done before, Mourinho said: “Because he isn’t a striker.

“Danny Rose can play right wing. But he’s a left-back. It’s as simple as that.

“Davinson Sanchez can play striker in this game, he’s a central defender.

“A striker, what I call a No.9, a target man, Son is not.”

Mourinho also made a point of mentioning that even Klopp has signed a player this month in Takumi Minamino.

He said: “Even the coaches without injuries, even for example Jurgen, with the best team and an amazing squad, he was happy to have a new player. We are all the same...”

Mourinho started his press conference by joking that he could not talk too much about Kane, saying: “I will get depressed and then you will say I am miserable.”

But he knows he faces a massive battle to qualify for the Champions League if Spurs do not replace the injured England striker.

Mourinho said: “The reality is when I came here, I knew the situation.

“I knew the situation was about trying to get the best out of the players that we have. That doesn’t change.”
