Buy Beatles’ radio debut
Family still grieving her loss
AUCTION Fab Four in 1962
A COPY of the first Beatles record ever played on radio is up for auction, with a guide price of £20,000.
Love Me Do was first played on Radio Luxembourg on October 5, 1962.
That original record, with Paul McCartney’s name misspelled as ‘McArtney’, will be sold by Omega Auctions, at Newton-le-Wil-lows, Merseyside, on January 28.
Also for sale will be a radio owned by Elvis and a letter signed by Queen.
RICKI NASH CHERYL’S BROTHER
POLICE are offering £500,000 for information about the abduction and suspected murder of a Brit toddler 50 years ago.
Cheryl Grimmer was snatched, aged three, from a changing area on a day at the seaside with mum Carole and her three brothers in 1970.
It happened in the city of Wollongong, in New South Wales, Australia.
The body of the child, originally from Bristol, has never been discovered.
On the 50th anniversary of Cheryl’s disappearance, NSW authorities raised the reward to one million Australian dollars (£528,000).
A man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, aged 16 at the time, was due to face a murder trial last year.
CHARGES
But after key evidence was deemed inadmissible, the charges were dropped.
A judge ruled the man’s interview with police from April, 1971, could not be used in court because there had been no parent, adult or lawyer accompanying him.
In 2011, a coroner found Cheryl had died but the cause and manner of death remained undetermined.
Her brother Ricki Nash said: “There are no words to describe the pain of losing a sister and the impact Cheryl’s disappearance has had on our entire family.
“We hope this reward is what is needed to bring justice for Cheryl.”
Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said: “We are appealing to those people who know something but have not previously been inclined to assist police.
“Witnesses reported seeing an unknown male carrying Cheryl towards the car park.”
