Tammy fears James fury after costing him an assist

WHAT you do no t want to do these days at Chelsea is annoy Reece James – at least Tammy Abraham doesn’t. James is 13 stone of power, pace, skill and aggression, and at just 20 is already being talked about as an England full-back. Abraham scored Chelsea’s second from man of the match James’s cross. But he was worried afterwards about James’s anger over the chances he fluffed from his passes.

The rookie England striker said: “I could have scored from another one off his crosses and he was fuming with me. He’s set up a lot of goals for me over the years. I always know where he is going to put the ball. I’m sure he will be a bit mad at me.

“I believe in Reece, the players believe him in. So long as he keeps performing like this he’ll be knocking on Gareth Southgate’s door.” Abraham is already in the England reckoning himself and hoping to step into the shoes of injured Three Lions captain Harry Kane.

“I look up to Harry,” he said. “I’m gutted he is injured. Hopefully he will be back for the Euros. “But there is an opportunity there – that is football.

Jorginho

There are a lot of strikers scoring goals, like Marcus Rashford and Danny Ings.

“And it wouldn’t bother me if Jamie Vardy came back from retirement. He is a talented striker, one of the players I have grown up admiring.

“Growing up I always wanted to play for England and now I have the opportunity, so I will try to grab it with both hands. But there is more pressure being Chelsea’s No.9.”

Burnley were a shade unlucky in this contest.

Jeff Hendrick had a header ruled out as Chelsea struggled early on, but then Matt Lowton brought down Willian with a rash challenge and Jorginho coolly slotted home the penalty.

Ben Mee had a header cleared off the line before James burst down the right to cross. Abraham seemed to push James Tarkowski before rising to head goalwards, and Burnley keeper Nick Pope made a real hash of it as he allowed the ball to bounce past him.

Pope then saved from James, but the game was over just after half-time when Cesar Azpilicueta crossed and Callum Hudson-Odoi arrived at the far post to convert for his first league goal.
