Toys taken to hospital for isolation kids
TOYS, games consoles and a pool table were among the items moved into a quarantine unit yesterday where 83 Brits – some of them children – will spend two weeks in enforced isolation.
Fridges, washing machines and computers were also installed in the seven-storey accommodation blocks at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral.
NHS bosses said they will be made “as comfortable as possible” with families staying together.
Residents will be provided with fully furnished rooms, food and laundry facilities and have access to a team of medical staff who will closely monitor their conditions.
Kitchens and food will be available for those who wish to self-cater.
Last night secure fencing was being put up all around the hospital.
A workman said : “We’ve been told they’ll need to get out and get some fresh air so we are screening all this off as far as the public footpath.”
Food and drink can be ordered from local takeaways, though under strict hygiene conditions.
It is understood the quarantine unit will operate like a hotel but security will be deployed to stop people leaving or entering. The rest of the hospital will work as normal.
Anyone found to have the disease will be whisked to another infectious diseases centre run by Liverpool’s Tropical School of Medicine.
Passengers had to sign contracts agreeing to be quarantined as a condition of getting the flight home.
Some residents are thought to be planning to work during the quarantine via the internet.
