YOUR SHOUT

This week, a HUGE response – too many to print – to cyclists riding on footpaths. This reply just about sums them all up...

Fiona, I’m so glad you feel the »

same way I do about cycles on paths. I walk most places and it’s become a misery. The cycle/ pedestrian walkways are a waste of time; no one makes sure cyclists ride in a safe manner; they come roaring up behind you and expect you to jump out of the way. If you say anything you receive abuse and, unlike cars, there’s no way of identifying them.

Cars on the road are supposed to give bikes plenty of room when they pass them – what about bikes passing pedestrians? And I cannot believe that it’s even being considered to let e-scooters on pathways. They surely cannot allow them on the roads either.

Paths must be for pedestrians only. It would be so nice to be able to go out, feel safe and be able to enjoy walks again.

Oh Fiona, your thoughts »

about walking and bicycles could have been written by me. Our council has done the same – shared pavements with cycles one side and pedestrians the other, which cyclists don’t adhere to. I am a walker and don’t exaggerate when I say I take my life in my hands, sometimes.

Hello Fiona, you do stand up »

for us oldies and we, at over 75, are being told we will be paying the full amount for the TV licence again. I feel that, maybe, if we could be charged, say £75, it would be fairer for us but still give a boost to the BBC income.

Barbara Parker, Worcester

FP: Agreed, Barbara. TV is a lifeline for those who spend more time at home as they get older.

My dad, who had early onset Alzheimer’s, spent most of his time watching telly when he could no longer go out without getting lost. He loved the BBC’s Sophie Raworth – bloomin’ cheek!

Fiona, I was glad to see your »

lovely comments about your hubby Martin Frizell last Saturday. I met him at This Morning Live last year and he is an absolute gent.

Jacqui, via email

FP: I’m pleased to say that he is indeed, Jacqui! I’ll pass your message on… and give him a big hug. He’ll think something’s wrong with me!

Film star Kirk

BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey has revealed that he had suicidal thoughts during the early days of his TV career. Luckily a wise friend shared these words with him: “The irony of killing yourself is you have shown you are strong enough to live”. Wise words which we could all do with committing to memory.

?? ?? FP: What can I say Jayne! I feel your pain. Paths must be for pedestrians only, indeed!
