BOWEN: GOING DOWN? NO WAY

-

MARK BOWEN has rubbished suggestions Reading are in a relegation battle.

The Royals have failed to win in eight games and find themselves nine points above the drop zone ahead of today’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

When asked if his side were in a dogfight, Bowen said: “Not in the slightest. I know the players I’ve got here.

“We can compete with anyone – I know that. We won’t take our eye off the ball – I won’t allow the players to do that.

“We have to make sure we’re focused in every game.”

Garry Monk is ready to axe his new-look Wednesday attack – after just two matches. The Owls are without a win in five as Connor Wickham, Alessio Da Cruz and Josh Windass have struggled.

Now boss Monk is ready to take action with Kadeem Harris, Jacob Murphy and Atdhe Nuhiu (above) set for recalls.

He said: “It hasn’t worked and that’s disappointing. The new lads are not fully fit and need minutes, but we need wins.”

At 21, Sawyers left West Brom, the club he supported as a boy and where he graduated through the academy, without kicking a ball for the first team.

Seven years later, the Baggies are knocking on heaven’s door – and the kid who was forced to seek his fortune elsewhere is back, pulling the strings in midfield like a golden harp.

When manager Slaven Bilic removes his highwayman’s mask and cloak, his £2.9million outlay to bring Sawyers home from Brentford will be exposed for what it was... an absolute steal.

Six points clear at the summit, Albion can take another giant stride towards the Premier League in today’s home date with fellow promotion chasers

Nottingham Forest.

“Going up would be the perfect love story,” said Sawyers. “As boy, I alway wanted to play West Brom in Premier Leagu
