HE’S SCOTT HIS SCORING BOOTS BACK

- BY JAMES NURSEY

SCOTT HOGAN has been backed to continue his red-hot form for Birmingham and shoot down his old club Brentford.

Hogan (above) struggled across the Second City at Aston Villa when he left the Bees in January 2017 for £12million.

But he has rediscovered his goalscoring touch at St Andrew’s after notching in all three League wins since a January loan move.

It has helped Pep Clotet’s side enjoy a nine-game unbeaten run ahead of Brentford’s visit today.

Boss Clotet (below) said: “I’m very happy with Scott’s performances because he’s made a huge impact from the beginning. But we need to remember that someone assisted those goals and someone won that ball. It’s teamwork. Everybody is pulling in the same direction and that’s what we need.” Birmingham went 11 League games unbeaten last term under Garry Monk when Clotet was his assistant. But Clotet reckons Blues are a much more dangerous side now. He explained: “The run we are in is fully deserved. Last season we had a very good run where we didn’t lose for 11 games.

“The difference now maybe is that the winning chances we now have in games, they were not there then.”

Shandon Baptiste claims Tuesday’s draw with Leeds left Brentford’s dressing room deflated.

The Bees would be second now had they won. But Baptiste, who made his debut in that game, still reckons Brentford proved that night that they deserve to be considered genuine promotion contenders.

The former Oxford midfielder said: “We want to prove to everyone we’re a top side and we did that on Tuesday.

“We were a bit down after that game but are now raring to go again. Hopefully we can do something big for this club this season.

“Everyone is together, that comes right from the manager (Thomas Frank).

“With big games coming up you need that. We all know it will be a tough game at Birmingham.”
