KEV’S CALL TO CUT OUT THE CHEAP SHOTS

DEONTAY’S PURE PONY

- FROM DAVID ANDERSON BROWN RED ALERT BY JULIE STOTT

TYSON FURY has dismissed Deontay Wilder as a “one-trick pony”. Fury claims Wilder’s only tactic is to knock people out — the unbeaten WBC king has stopped 41 of his 42 victims.

The Gypsy King says his rival should be worried because he proved in their controversial draw in December 2018 that he can get up from his best shots. “I’ve been 12 rounds, outboxed him quite comfortably, taken his best shots, got up and fired back at him,” said unbeaten Fury. “The one who should be concerned is Deontay Wilder with him being a one-trick pony. He knocked me down twice but he couldn’t finish me. He’s a one-dimensional fighter and I’m going to prove it.”

KEVIN BROWN has demanded zero tolerance towards players who blindside opponents with late tackles.

Medical staff treated the Salford scrum-half for several minutes after he was floored by Darnell McIntosh in Friday’s 12-10 defeat to Huddersfield.

Brown played on but woke up the following day unable to move his neck.

He said: “I wasn’t concussed but it was a classic whiplash injury. I had passed the ball and didn’t see it coming so couldn’t brace myself.

“I have had that all my career, with people trying to stop you attacking the line and creating a chance, but it is really frustrating.”

The sport’s bosses have vowed to clamp down on cheap-shot hits but Brown says more needs to be done.

McIntosh was not penalised at the time and also escaped punishment when the match review panel studied video of the incident.

Brown added: “When I got hit I was pretty certain he would have got something.

“Referees have to stop it. It is scary for everyone when it happens, especially your family when they see you go down.”

Giants boss Simon Woolford claimed Brown feigned the injury to try and get full-back McIntosh in trouble.

Woolford also accused opposite number Ian Watson of trying to get McIntosh suspended by highlighting the incident after the game.

Brown, who denies the feigning accusation, was later sin-binned for headbutting Jordan Turner in a tackle and was hit with a two-match suspension.

■ REFEREE Ben Thaler has hired a lawyer after he was suspended by the RFL over an alleged incident before the Leeds v Hull FC game earlier this month.
