INFECTION E.coli bacteria

A YOUNG brother and sister died of E.coli 12 days apart, an inquest heard.

Florence, two, and Sonny Leto, six months, had a very rare and virulent strain of the bacteria.

A tummy bug was diagnosed in September 2018 but they did not recover.

Sonny was rushed to hospital two days later and declared dead on arrival.

Tests revealed the attack led to kidney failure.

Public Health England’s Dr Lauren Ahyow said the source is not known.

Mum Gemma, of Charnwood, Leics, said: “They were both just babies.”

The inquest at Loughborough coroner’s court is expected to last all week.
