WHAT TO EXPECT...

-

FUEL DUTY: It has been frozen since 2011 and rumours abound it will be raised. But that would likely prompt a Tory revolt by more than a dozen new “blue-collar” MPs who warn “clobbering” working-class drivers will “send the wrong message”.

STAMP DUTY: Boris Johnson could enact a manifesto pledge to slap a 3% Stamp Duty surcharge on homes bought by foreign buyers to deter homes being snapped up as investments for profit.

BOOZE AND FAGS: It is common to put a penny or twoon “sin taxes”, including cigarettes and alcohol. New rates usually apply from that evening.

INCOME TAX: Since 2010 the focus has been on raising

the tax-free personal allowance, which now stands at £12,500. Could it rise further?

MINIMUM WAGE: The rate for over-25s will rise by 51p to £8.72 an hour from April. It will also rise to £8.20 (age 21 to 24), £6.45 (18 to 20), £4.55 (under 18) and £4.15 (apprentice).

INHERITANCE TAX: The Tories have repeatedly cut this tax. From April the tax-free sum is due to hit £500,000, or £1million for married couples.

NATIONAL INSURANCE:

From April, you will pay no national insurance contributions on the first £9,500 of your earnings, up from £8,632 now and saving

around £85 a year. That has been criticised for falling short of the £500-a-year the PM promised.

END OF TAMPON TAX: 5% VAT on women’s sanitary products is expected to be abolished, with a zero rate applying from the start of next year.

FLOOD DEFENCES: Funding expected to be doubled to £5.2billion, helping build 2,000 new flood and coastal defence schemes and better protect 336,000 homes in England over the next six years.

SUPERFAST BROADBAND: £5bn of funding by 2025 for superfast broadband will be announced, alongside a £1bn dealto boost the 4 G mobile phone signal across the country.
