Data plan ‘threatens our rights’

-

THE Government’s Covid-19 contact tracing app has raised concerns among civil liberty groups.

Hannah Couchman, of human rights charity Liberty, said: “There is no digital sticking plaster to address this public health emergency and amassing even more data about each of us creates serious threats to our rights.”

She said there has been “scant detail about exactly what kind of data will be collected, and who will have access to it”.

Liberty claims the Government will collect the app’s data centrally.

This is different to other countries, where all information is stored on individual phones.

Ms Couchman added: “This pandemic must not be used as cover to normalise technology that threatens our rights.”
