PICTURE THE MOMENT
We arrived in Parliament Square about 2.15pm on VE Day. The place was overflowing with people – civilians and members of the Armed Forces: British, American, French, Poles, Norwegians, Belgians.
We stood facing Big Ben. As the chimes began to ring before the stroke of the three we snapped a picture.
The crowd almost went wild with cheers. The bugle call “cease fire” was sounded, then the Speaker of the House of Commons

introduced Mr Churchill, who gave a very fine talk, sprinkled with cheering from the crowd.
