The luxury NHS badges

A LUXURY metalworks company has created a unique handmade pin badge that will raise cash for NHS Charities Together.

The badges, made by Vaughtons are in the shape of a rainbow, mirroring those placed in windows up and down the country.

The Birmingham firm has made medals for the Premier League and Six Nations champions.

Managing director Nick Hobbis said: “The rainbow has become a symbol of gratitude and is set to become the 21st Century’s poppy.”

Ellie Orton, chief executive of NHS Charities Together, said: “These funds will help us continue to support NHS workers, volunteers and patients impacted by Covid-19.

“What a lovely way to say thank you to those of deserve it most.”

NHS heroes fighting coronavirus should receive a medal named after Florence Nightingale says the boss of a museum dedicated to the Lady with the Lamp.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the founder of modern nursing. Politicians backing the Mirror’s campaign to Give NHS Heroes a Medal have already called for a gong to be called the Nightingale Medal. Davey Green, director of the Florence Nightingale Museum, told the Mirror: “We would be thrilled if her name was kept alive in this way. The museum is delighted to support this and recognises the truly heroic actions of many people. That is certainly within the spirit of Nightingale.”

The museum is based at St Thomas’ Hospital, opposite the Houses of Parliament in central London, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent three nights in intensive care in April when he was gravely ill with coronavirus.
