AN 82-year-old man died after being trampled by a herd of cows while out walking with his wife.
The couple were with their dogs near Ribblehead Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday at around 2pm when they are thought to have disturbed the cattle.
The cow, who had calves with them, caused the man serious injuries and he died at the scene.
His wife was airlifted to Lancaster Royal Infirmary.
She was thought to be suffering from shock but not badly injured.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority recommends keeping dogs on leads when walking in the area and to exercise caution when close to livestock, particularly during the breeding season.

A study of 2,000 British women revealed our favourite styles, revealing that that knee-high boots, denim jackets and skinny jeans are also in the top 10. Band T-shirts, leather biker jackets and dungarees were rated highly.
Many are still wardrobe staples, with one in four saying skinny jeans are one of their fashion must-haves.
A quarter of women favour an LBD and one in 10 adults has a leather biker jacket.
Dan Harvie, of Samsung, who commissioned the research from OnePoll, said: “Our study just goes to show that there are many memorable trends from over the years and, as a result, people are hanging on to items

Nearly half (48%) see these items as essentials because they “go with everything” while 64% choose them simply because they’re comfortable. And 49% enjoy wearing them because they are a good fit.
Nearly three in 10 will avoid wearing the items too often if it means preserving them for as long as possible, while a fifth wash them less.
A quarter also ensure they wash iconic pieces on a gentler setting.
Designer Mary Quant is thought to have given the mini-skirt its name in the 1960s. It became popular after being worn by models such as Twiggy.
