King Kenny hails the amazing relationship between Klopp and the Red Army

KENNY DALGLISH hailed Jurgen Klopp as “the perfect fit” for Liverpool and said he’s such a good egg that even rival fans like him.

Before Thursday night, Dalglish was the last manager to lift the title for Liverpool - 30 long years ago, before the Premier League had even begun.

But now there’s a new king at Anfield – and the Scot could not be more pleased.

For the Anfield great, it is Klopp’s humility and work ethic that stands him out as an all-time great, to rival fans as well as his own. In fact Dalglish believes the German has such an affinity with the city that he could even be a Scouser.

“Obviously Liverpool fans and the players adore Jurgen, but there are a lot of opposition fans who think he is a good fella, too,” Dalglish said.

“You don’t get that with too many managers. Jurgen is the perfect fit for Liverpool.

“I am sure he is a Scouser. Some people are suited to clubs because of the personality they have and the beliefs they have.

“He is very comfortable in himself because he knows what he gives is honest effort and a commitment to success, and he doesn’t mind sharing that success.

“He is very comfortable and he enjoys sharing the success he has with everybody.” For Dalglish though, the greatest emotion has come in seeing the fans celebrate once more after years of heartache and trauma.

Twice they have seen their team lift the European Cup in the last 30 years but the league title has always eluded them, even though they went so close so often. “The supporters have always been there, right beside the club, it is a fantastic day for them and one they thoroughly deserve,” he said.

“You don’t get the success they have had with four trophies in a year without everybody going in the same direction and everyone supporting each other. That is what they have done. And the manager is the one who set that off. Everyone has respected their respective roles to get them to this situation. I am sure it is not finished yet.”

And Dalglish, who played with some great captains in the 1970s and ’80s, reckons Jordan Henderson deserves to be ranked alongside the club’s truly great skippers.

Dalglish – captain himself during the 1977-78 European Cup-winning season when Liverpool were triumphant at

Wembley – signed Henderson on his return as Liverpool boss in 2011, and he believes the midfielder should be revered by the fans who once doubted him.

“Jordan will be the only Liverpool captain who has lifted this trophy and been a Club World Cup winner as well. He is up there with the captains who have picked up the Champions League,” he said.

Henderson signed from Sunderland for around £20million in June 2011 and for a long time struggled to convince Liverpool fans he was up to the job.

But he became only the fifth Anfield skipper to hold aloft the European Cup (when Liverpool beat Spurs in Madrid last year) and there will be few who doubt him now.

Dalglish said: “When I signed him I saw somebody who was better than what we had at that time. That was on the pitch. Then when you get into discussions, he was very balanced. And his dad came with him for the conversations, which was for me a good sign. “He had a secure home life which helps and he was determined to be a success in football. If I hadn’t given him a chance, it would have been me who would have been wrong. I’m not being modest – you see something you like and you get it.”
