Fahey’s past winner looks Fool proof
YOU would have to be a Fool to miss the Betfair Gosforth Park Cup.
This five-furlong dash up the Newcastle straight is sure to be a fierce burnup with lightning-fast front-runners Ornate and Caspian Prince in the field.
That should set things up nicely for last year’s winner FOOL FOR YOU (2.25), trained by Richard Fahey (right).
The mare came home well from off a strong pace when getting the better of Copper Knight 12 months ago. El Hombre, another of today’s rivals, was back in third.
That was her second win from four runs on the all-weather and she’s yet to finish out of the first three on sand.
Her turf form later in the season wasn’t as good so it was most encouraging to see her finish fourth in a fillies’ Listed race at Ayr on Monday when badly off at the weights with the first two home.
She’s got a nice draw in stall 10 and has won when turned out quickly. The 9-1 on offer is too good to miss. Have 2pts each-way.
The big race on Newcastle’s card is the Northumberland Plate.
Alan King had an incredible Royal Ascot notching up three winners and I fancy him to plunder another big Flat prize with RAINBOW DREAMER (3.35).
This strong stayer won his first five all-weather starts and his fourth behind Gold Cup runner-up Nayef Road in the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes over today’s course and distance three weeks ago was every bit as good.
His record when wearing cheekpieces is excellent and Hollie Doyle has won three times from four rides on him. Have 1pt to win at 9-1 with William Hill.
Newmarket’s card looks trickier although last year’s winner Limato looks a solid favourite in the Group 3 Criterion Stakes.
There’s more for us to get our teeth into at Redcar where it’s worth backing DAWAALEEB (2.50).
He seems to like this track and he’s still nicely treated on his best form despite winning at Newcastle when last seen.
His trainer Les Eyre has made a decent start to the season so have 1pt each-way at the 12-1 on offer with Hills.
