Packed beach will lead to 2nd wave

-

■ IT beggars belief that the thousands of people who flocked to beaches around the country during last week’s heatwave cannot or do not want to consider that we are still in the middle of a pandemic (Mirror, June 26).

Are people so selfish that they don’t consider the effects of their actions on others who are perhaps more vulnerable than themselves? On the other hand, did the local councils not foresee the good weather and soaring temperatures would cause these people to flock to these areas? Surely they could have placed restrictions or even closed down the beaches? If it’s not open you can’t come in.

Let’s hope the selfish minority have not helped to undo the sacrifices the majority have taken during these past months.

Hilary Milne, Wallasey, Merseyside

■ Here we go again. Some members of the great British public only have to see the sun and all sense goes straight out of the window as it did during last week’s heatwave. If we get a second spike of Covid, God forbid, these same foolish sun worshippers will be busy blaming everyone bar themselves. How irresponsible and foolish can people be? Most, presumably, can’t work yet for safety reasons yet fail to see how their actions are potentially putting lives at risk.

Harry Miller, New Addington, Gtr London

■ We seem to have a certain element in this country who think they can do what they like with impunity. Now is the time for this Government to start dealing with the problem of illegal street parties before they lose control of the streets all together.

This is what happens when you ease the lockdown too quickly and, not to be unfair, certain places in the UK have never really been in lockdown because the authorities did little to enforce it.

T Ritchie, Wirral, Merseyside

■ The shocking scenes at Bournemouth were in no small way down to this Government’s poor handling of the pandemic. Let’s face it, they hardly set a good example when Dominic Cummings refused to take responsibility for his breach of the lockdown rules.

It’s more a case of do as I say, not as I do. People now think if they can do what they like, why can’t we and so have flocked to the beaches and beauty spots to take advantage of the good weather.

Fiona Harrison, Manchester

■ The Prime Minister said he hoped people would still be careful while certain restrictions are lifted, but seeing how some mindless idiots have behaved I just wonder what is going on in their heads. They have no thought of others flocking to public places and ignoring social distancing.

M George, Biggleswade, Beds

■ For those just hoping this problem will go away when the weather changes, it won’t. Dominic Cummings opened Pandora’s box. It was his selfish actions which have caused this mass hysteria and lack of care for social distancing. Colin Davies, Liverpool

■ How selfish people are crowding on to beaches and holding illegal parties when we are still in the midst of a public health crisis is completely beyond me. Then they leave behind all their rubbish for others to clear up. Disgusting.
